Uploading campaign data in ChatGPT: Safe?

You've got campaign data and you're using ChatGPT. Can you upload it and let the AI help?

Short answer: Not really. Let me explain why.

Free ChatGPT? Big NO.

If you're using the free version, your chats are not private. ChatGPT can learn from your chats. You can't turn that off. "Anonymized" still means it can understand what you typed. Real people at OpenAI might look at your chats.

So if you upload stuff like campaign plans or client info... You're sharing that in a way you probably didn't mean to.

ChatGPT Plus (Paid)... Hmm not fully safe.

Your chats still help train the AI unless you change the settings. Even then, OpenAI moderators can still see your messages. There's no contract or guarantee that keeps your info private.

ChatGPT Team or Enterprise. Safer.

These have training off by default. Some better rules around privacy. But still, not 100% private.

What should you do?

If you have to use ChatGPT:

  1. Remove all names and personal info
  2. Don't upload client secrets or campaign data that can be traced
  3. Tell your clients if you use AI tools like ChatGPT
  4. Use a tool to anonymize data first
